Maryland Biotechnology Center

Connecting you to the federal network

Maryland is unique among the states in that it arguably has more federal life sciences related agencies, institutes and centers than anywhere in the U.S.  Adjacent to the nation’s capital, Maryland is home to nearly 50 federal life sciences institutes and centers.  These world-renowned institutions include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC), the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and Walter Reed (WRAIR), just to name a few.  These federal organizations are fueled with more than $12 billion in basic and clinical R&D funding, all conducted in Maryland.

The impact of having this federal research intensity, in addition to immediate access to all key regulatory agencies relevant to biotechnology, is unparalleled opportunities for collaboration, licensing and regulatory efficiency.

The Maryland Biotechnology Center staff can assist in connecting you to these opportunities. Our in-depth knowledge of these organizations and connection access, can help accelerate your business goals.
