Governor O'Malley Announces State Grants Available For Maryland Bio Companies

Governor Martin O’Malley announced today that State grants are available in Fiscal Year 2011 through the Maryland Biotechnology Center to assist in commercializing promising research, encouraging bio companies to collaborate with academic institutions and expanding biotechnology resources. The Governor also announced that seven Maryland bio companies and universities received $1.3 million in FY 2010 grants, which was the first year of funding. Read More...

Biotech Tax Credit Goes Online, Draws More Than 100 Applications

Investors seeking a portion of the $8 million available in FY 2011 for the State’s popular Biotechnology Investment Incentive Tax Credit submitted applications online this morning, using a new system that was developed to make the process of applying for the credits more efficient. At 9 a.m., when investors could “line up” electronically, program administrators with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) reported the new system worked smoothly and more than 100 applications were filed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Maryland Biotechnology Center today announced the launch of three additional databases that will give Maryland’s start-up and early-stage bioscience companies free access to some of the industry’s most valuable and up-to-date research. The new databases include Frost & Sullivan’s Healthcare Research, Deloitte’s Recap and Discovery Logic’s Synapse and are now available for use in the Center’s Baltimore and Rockville offices.
