Building the Pipeline for Tomorrow’s Workforce: Student Internships
The Maryland Biotechnology Center will administer workforce and education grants to help students reach their academic and career goals. Building the pipeline of Maryland's future bioscience workforce is one of the Center's top priorities. Working with academic centers, education-focused foundations and industry partners, the Center will offer internship grants to enable students to obtain experience in an industry setting. At the same time, these internships offer participating companies the opportunity to influence, attract and build loyalty with these prospective employees. The Center’s intent is to better integrate Maryland's biotechnology companies into the State's training and workforce recruitment efforts.
Building the Pipeline for Tomorrow’s Workforce: Teacher Externships
Excitement is contagious. The more that teachers can personally experience various career options in biotechnology, and the more excited about these career options they become, the more effectively they will influence their students to consider a career in biotechnology. In this way, we can increase the pipeline for Maryland’s future workforce in the industry. Similar to internships offered for students, the Center will offer summer “externships” to teachers that have specialized in the biological sciences, so they may experience the various career paths in the industry and continue inspiring future generations of bioscience talent.
